What is the difference between a convertible car seat and a capsule?

An infant carrier is a travel system that remains in the in the rearward facing position up to 6 months of age or once the child’s shoulders meet the exit height marker. An infant carrier is convenient for parents and minimises the amount of times a child is taken in and out of the car.

A convertible car seat carries a child from birth up until 4 years of age, or once the child’s shoulders meet the exit height marker. Convertible car seats accommodate newborns by converting into the rearward facing position from approximately 12 or 30 months and will then be converted into the forward facing position up until the age of 4 years or once their shoulders meet the exit height marker.

Both options are equally safe and there is no right or wrong in choosing a convertible car seat over an infant carrier to begin with, however, convertible car seats will last you longer than 6 months in the rearward facing position.
